THE PROFESSIONAL STUDENT
About TPS
I think of myself not so much as a teacher, but as a "Professional Student" because one September morning, in the fall of 1990, I had my first day of school. Now, more than 3 decades, 2 master's degrees, a dual certification in special ed. and English, and umpteen continuing education classes later, I know what to do when I walk into any classroom. I know how to get an A.
What's more, I've spent 15 years as a teacher and academic coach, imparting crucial academic skills to students. You need to learn the content - but that's not enough. You need to learn how to DO school. You need to have goals, an organizational system, and a functional workspace. You need to know how to focus and get yourself fired up about content you used to think was boring. You need to have a planner - and know how to use it.
"Why is my SMART child getting LOUSY grades?"
I work with families and students to help them figure out how to make all their hard work show on the scoreboard.

Services
I provide individualized academic coaching for students who need more than homework help. Each engagement begins with a careful review of parent insight, teacher feedback, and any available educational testing to develop a comprehensive understanding of the student’s learning profile. From there, I design a strategic, customized plan that strengthens executive functioning while delivering targeted support across core academic disciplines - from mathematics and science to writing, the humanities, and more. The focus is never simply on improving grades, but on cultivating durable, lasting systems, intellectual confidence, and long-term academic independence.
